Boycott Beijing

A couple months ago, Chris discussed the possibility of starting a movement trying to convince people to turn off the Olympics this year in protest of China’s rule of Tibet. It looks like now, with the recent violence, he isn’t the only one who holds this view.

As much as I like the Olympics, I may join the boycott. By not watching, we hurt ratings, which in turn affects advertising. If there is no money to be had, it will be hard for countries like China (with awful human rights records) to win an Olympic bid. And that in turn will add just a little more pressure for them to re-evaluate their position. It’s a long shot, but change needs to start somewhere, right?
